Course Aims::

 

 

Content:

  1. The study of Syriac grammar through grammatical explanation and exercises;
  2. the study in class of selected Syriac texts;
  3. the study in class of the Aramaic of the Book of Daniel.

F. Rosenthal, A Grammar of Biblical Aramaic, 1963.

 

Higher Level courses:

For suitably qualified students, the following higher-level courses in Aramaic are also available:

Level 2: NE2610 Aramaic/Syriac Language II

Level 3: NE3610 Aramaic/Syriac Language III.

 

Candidates wishing to take these courses should discuss the matter with Prof. Alexander

 

Weekly					Fridays 9-10 (WLG13), 1-2 (WLG18)

Taught in: 			Both Semesters

Assessment:			1 x 3 hour end-of-year examination on 
							Syriac/Aramaic grammar and texts (portions 
							of prepared text for translation and grammatical 
							comment).  50% of the mark is awarded for 
							specified course-work (normally a susbstantial 
							piece of unprepared translation into English)
