Course Aims: This research-led course unit examines, through the study of original Hebrew texts, some of the central concerns, topics, conceptual assumptions and methods of rabbinic legal discourse, in particular in the Mishnaic period. Classes are devoted to the reading of original texts, punctuated by short lectures on specific topics; regular text preparation in advance is necessary.
