B.A. WITH HONOURS IN THE STUDY
OF
RELIGION AND THEOLOGY

Why read Jewish Studies?

DEPT OF RELIGIONS & THEOLOGY

Students take 120 credits in each of the three years of this degree. Of these, only the first level core course (40 credits) and the third level General Paper (10 credits) and 30-credit dissertation (the topic of which may be within Jewish Studies) are compulsory.

The following Jewish Studies courses may be taken as options (List A without restriction), List B subject to a maximum of 40 credits in each year), subject to any linguistic or other prerequisites required for individual courses.

Click here for short descriptions of the individual courses which comprise the different programmes. Individual courses are reviewed year by year, and not all courses run every year. Some courses have prerequisites (see the relevant Departmental Handbook). Some are designed to alternate with others on a two year cycle (indicated by "alt", in the lists below). A number of new courses (indicated by ·) are currently going through course approval procedures. There are plans further to supplement the list, particularly in the areas of Modern Jewish History and Modern Hebrew Literature, as from 2001/2002, provided that resources permit.
