Early Modern Workshop
The Early Modern Workshop presents Jewish history resources. The aim of the Early Modern Workshop was to hold a series of workshops and conferences with the aim of defining the characteristics of Jewish development in the early modern period. Due to the series of workshops sources and papers have been published online. All sources are in their original form with an English translation and accompanied by explanatory notes by scholars. Selected lectures and discussions of the sources are also available to view on the site. Primary Sources: Workshops include 'Early modern Jewries', 'Jews and urban spaces'. Secondary Sources: Resources include 'Privilege and statue of Maria Theresia for the Jews of Trieste', 'Letter from Jerusalem, Obadiah of Bertinoro', 'Ordinance from the Pinkas of the Jewish community in Poznan'.

The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives
Dedicated to the preservation of the religious, organizational, economic, cultural, personal, social and family life of American Jewry, this site features an overview of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center in Ohio, a summary and inventory of the centre's collections, archive of the American Jewish Studies journal, details on the centre's Fellowship program, synagogue history and archives, and virtual tours of current exhibitions (125th Anniversary of Hebrew Union College and Great Voices of Reform). Primary Sources: Special collection of manuscripts and synagogue archives. Secondary sources: Various articles from the most current American Jewish Studies Journal.

History of the Jewish People
The internet version of Eli Bimbaum's book; a timeline of Jewish historical events throughout the world from the year 68 to 1939.  The site is indexed by year and alphabetically by subject name and/or location. There is a short introduction by the Bimbaum outlining his book and his purpose in creating this site.

Comments Bimbaum’s The History of the Jewish People book published on the Internet. Good time-line and updates. Introduction alone excellent: accessible and readable.Good for teachers of RE KS 1/4 at all level. Suitable and helpful. Also for students of GCSE level RE and History, eminently useful whether for facts or bibliographies. Bibliographies could also be useful for English (See: Anne Frank)

Heritage: Civilization and the Jews
Based upon the nine-part television series by the same name, this site is more than a commercial for the DVD and Videos of the series. Features interactive presentations, maps, historical documents, atlas, and video clips in Real Player and Microsoft Media Player formats as well as a historical timeline from 3100 BC to the present, links to web resources listed by time-period, video resource guide in PDF format, and teaching resources (lesson plans to used in conjunction with the video series).

Comments Excellent tool for teaching - either teachers at Inset to prepare for GCSE or A level RE - or History students at -A level: the story behind the State of Israel. Helped by Abba Eban's clear delivery. Lesson Plans. All teachers in Primary or Secondary schools and pupils of an adequate reading level  wanting better to understand of The Jewish Experience. Superb as a course, but any section could be used separately to highlight core issues in a particular Biblical or Historical period.

Jerusalem Archives
A source for documents which also houses a large and extensive image gallery housed chronologically (from 1800 BC to 1967) with brief accompanying explanatory notes. Primary Sources: Image gallery, documents from 954 BC to 1960 related to the history of Jerusalem.

The Jewish Historical Society of England
The "oldest learned historical society of its kind in Europe" features downloadable transactions, newsletters and miscellanies of the Jewish Historical Society in PDF format, contact information, member requests, and an online application form.

Dinur Center for Research of Jewish History
Very useful for its lists of links on every conceivable subject related to Jewish history. The site features a over 6000 links to websites in more than 30 categories dealing with Jewish History from Archaeology to Zionism.  These links are checked daily and dead links are noted.  Very short synopsis of regional projects on Romanian, Dutch, Hungarian German, and Hispanic Jewry with contact telephone numbers and email addresses. University lectures, conference, workshop and symposia topics and dates. Dinur Center publications list and graduate studies funding information.

Comments A resource centre. In addition, the timeline section brought up some excellent photo records, e.g. of Israel’s first Government (20th Century), which could be valuable for teachers of GCSE and A level History.

Sephardi Connection
Cyber-Community built around the subject of Sephardic Judaism and Sephardim, their history, culture, literatures, languages, and genealogy. Offers forums on the above topics, message board, conference information, numerous articles, an outline of major trends in Judaism, a short article on conversion and the major controversies surrounding it,  links to virtual exhibitions related to Sephardic Judaism, a "book club" list of titles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Hebrew.   NOTE: Password required to participate in forums. Shakespeare and Anti-Semitism
Designed as an  introductory resource for anyone who is interested in the nature of Elizabethan anti-Semitism, focusing on how it is reflected in The Merchant of Venice. Includes an examination of the historical context from the perspective of the history of Jews in Europe, the image of Jewish persons in the theatre, and a textual analysis of the play. Includes images associated with the period under examination. Primary sources: Image gallery of actors in the role of Shylock and related images of Jews in contemporary English prints and samples from Shakespeare's text. Comments Excellent site in its very conception. Invaluable for all students and teachers of English and Shakespeare from GCSE upwards; also specifically for the study of ‘The Merchant of Venice’. Expansive investigation into all the ‘old chestnuts’.

Western Jewish History Centre
The Western Jewish History Centre is 'the worlds largest repository of materials documenting the contribution of Jews to the life, experience and history of the American west up to the present'. The centre collects reference books, periodicals, personal and family documents, institutional archives and art and artefacts  This website links and give information on these. Primary Sources: Exhibitions include 'Houses and Housing: Portability in Jewish Faith and Culture', 'If not now, When? 150 Years of Californian Jewish Activism' , 'Modernism in Israel: Works on Paper' and 'Revisions- Searching for the Ideal City'.
